2021 Archibald Portrait Touring Exhibition With Walk & Pub Lunch * REVISED DATE*

Sun, 7 Nov 2021
07:54 - 20:44

SPECIAL NOTE: The 2021 Archibald Exhibition concludes on Sunday 21 November. No extension is possible as the exhibition is on a national tour. The Gippsland Line will see buses replace trains for the period Friday 12 November to Sunday 21 November inclusive. Thus, assuming the Covid-19 Health orders are modified to allow travel to Regional Victoria, the event will proceed on Sunday 7 November. And a reminder that the First Aid Course will take place on Saturday 6 November - all members welcome to register for the uniquely designed course specially for The NOMADS.

Celebrate 100 years of the Archibald Portrait Prize with a visit to the Gippsland Art Gallery in Sale for the only Victorian venue to display the touring exhibition. NOTE: A separate exhibition to celebrate 100 years of the Archibald with a selection of 100 portraits (refer to the Rachel Griffiths hosted series on ABC TV earlier this year) is scheduled for Geelong Art Gallery and will be a NOMADS activity in early 2022.

Travel options include (1) by return train travel or (2) by vehicle to meet up at Sale Railway Station by 10:45am. Prior to viewing the Exhibition there will be a walking tour of Sale, including the Port of Sale and lunch at the Star Hotel, 173 Raymond St, Sale.

GRADE | LENGTH | TYPE: Easy, approximately 6 km, circuit walk on flat paths around the City of Sale.

ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION:
Sale is the major city in the eastern area of Gippsland, with a population in excess of 15,000 people. The then Sale Regional Art Gallery moved to the Port of Sale site in 1995 and changed its name to Gippsland Art Gallery. The building underwent a major re-fit over the years 2015 to 2017. It now contains six exhibition spaces. The Gallery has a permanent collection of approximately 1,750 items.

After arrival in Sale, there will be a walk through Sale before a 12:30pm lunch at the Star Hotel in Raymond St. Some 90 minutes is allocated for lunch before the short walk from the Star to the Art Gallery in Foster St. Entry to the Exhibition is every 30 minutes on a 15 / 45 cycle. So, attendees need to book for the 2:15pm or 2:45 pm session. The Gallery recommends at least 45 minutes to view the Exhibition.

Entry fees are: Adult @ $17 | Concession @ $11 | Seniors @ $15. Tickets can be purchased online at archibaldprizegippsland.com.au.
